Ingredients:

  • 6 to 8 Slices – Bread (I use Whole Wheat Bread & Multigrain Bread)
  • 2 – Whole Eggs
  • ¼ cup – Milk (you can add upto ½ cup of milk if you want to make more slices of French toast)
  • 3-4 Tbsp – Sugar (I use granulated sugar)
  • 1 Tsp – Vanilla Essence
  • Butter/oil/ghee – To cook on the griddle
  • 10-12 – Almonds (toast them & then slice them finely to slivers)
  • 3-4 Tbsp – Dark Chocolate cut into small pieces (dark chocolate is good as it holds well on heat)

Method:

  1. Basic French Toast Recipe:

  • In a flat wide bowl add eggs, milk, vanilla essence, sugar & beat/whisk nicely. We need to make sure the sugar has dissolved completely. (the mixture comes together well if all the ingredients are in room temperature).
  • This quantity gives 6 slices of French toast, you can add ¼ cup more milk & make more French toasts if you like.
  • Heat a griddle/tava & drizzle oil/butter/ghee.
  • Take a bread slice with tongs & dip it in the mixture (custard). Drain the excess custard. (The bread soaks the custard & holds its shape well, if the bread is a few days old).
  • Once the bread has been coated with the custard well, with tongs transfer it onto the hot griddle to cook. (keep the heat on medium low)
  • Let it cook. With a spatula lift the edge of one bread & check if it has started to turn light brown & then flip it.
  • Add ghee/oil/butter on both sides once it is cooked well before you remove from the griddle.
  • It is ready to serve.
  1. French Toast with Slivered Almonds:

  • Dry toast the almonds & cut them into thin pieces. Set aside. (you can follow this method & use any dry nuts of your choice)
  • Drizzle oil/butter/ghee on a hot griddle.
  • Dip the bread in the custard well & drain the excess & place it on a plate.
  • Sprinkle the slivered Almonds on top of the bread (the quantity you wish). Take a spatula & gently press on the almonds so they settle well onto the bread.
  • With a spatula take the bread & flip it on the griddle so that the slivered almonds side goes on the hot griddle.
  • Now sprinkle the required amount of slivered almonds on the top side of the bread & gently press with a spatula so the almonds settle well onto the bread. (plz do not miss this step, if we do not press the almonds, while flipping the bread the almonds pieces will fall off the bread).
  • Let it cook. Lift one edge of the toast to check if the bread has toasted well & flip.
  • Add ghee/butter & remove from heat.
  • Ready to serve.

  • Sprinkle the dark chocolate pieces (the quantity you wish). Take a spatula & gently press on the dark chocolate pieces so they settle well onto the bread.
  • With a spatula take the bread & flip it on the griddle so that the chocolate side goes on the hot griddle.
  • Now sprinkle the required amount of dark chocolate pieces on the top side of the bread & gently press with a spatula so the chocolate pieces settle well onto the bread. (let’s not for this step).
  • Let it cook. Lift one edge of the toast to check if the bread has toasted well & flip.
  • Add ghee/butter & remove from heat.
  • Ready to serve.
